Car Accident FAQs
If you have been injured in a car accident in the Indianapolis area, you likely have many questions. The good news for you is that you have come to the right place. I have been representing the interests of the injured for more than 37 years and have achieved positive outcomes for my clients.
What’s my case worth?
This will depend on many factors, but primarily the dollar value of your settlement or jury award will depend on the damages you have suffered due to negligence. This includes your medical expenses, your lost wages, your pain and suffering, and your property damage. I focus on maximizing compensation for my clients by making sure that compensation is enough to cover the future costs of injuries as well, which can include home modifications, long-term rehabilitation, and lost future earnings.
Should I talk to the adjusters?
No. It is crucial to have a lawyer looking out for your interests and handling interactions with the insurance company’s adjusters.
Why not? The adjuster seems nice enough.
The adjuster is probably very nice. The adjuster is probably even a stand-up citizen and all-around good person. But that doesn’t change the fact that the adjuster’s job is to find reasons to limit the compensation you receive. And it’s your attorney’s job to make sure you get what you deserve.
Should I be using my health insurance coverage?
Yes. The most important thing right now is to get the medical treatment you need and make sure that your injuries and symptoms are properly documented. Once your case is settled or a verdict is rendered, you and your health insurer will be reimbursed for these upfront costs.
What if I don’t have health insurance?
You may not have health insurance, but almost certainly have auto insurance. And that policy includes medical payment coverage. It’s not much, but it is there and you can use it for your treatment. I am often able to negotiate a reduction of costs or an advancement of medical costs pending future reimbursement from personal injury compensation.
If you do not have medical payment coverage, I can negotiate directly with medical providers to make sure you receive the care you need during this critical stage of your recovery.
What should I do after a car accident?
DO talk to the police. DO seek medical treatment. Then, before you talk to the adjusters, contact my Indianapolis law firm for a free consultation and ask for me by name. As your attorney, I will collect no fees unless I obtain compensation for you.
